How many nest boxes per chicken? At least 1 box per 4-5 hens. If all your chickens are laying daily, you may need more boxes, especially if you have a breed laying large eggs.

You don't want their boxes to become crowded or there to be too many eggs. If an egg breaks, there is a risk that one or more hens eat their own eggs. Hens can become very territorial over their nesting box and it can cause higher stress between hens. If one or more hens feel like they don't have a box, they're happy with, they can become stressed and then ill, they might stop eating, drinking, start laying smaller eggs or stop laying altogether. You want a happy, stress free coop of healthy hens with plenty of room to roam, socialise and lay.

Modular nesting boxes - construct your own desired nest-box stack, single or double side. The design allows for placement of nesting material on each laying tray. When eggs are laid they roll out under the perch, which is then simply lifted to remove them. Each floor tray is easily pulled out for cleaning. These nesting boxes are hung on the wall, or set up on stands. Leg sets can be bought separately. Front guard prevents birds from scratching out bedding, openings on the sides and bottom to allow airflow and ventilation. Made from galvanised steel and durable plastic.

Nest-o-matic ia a quality, ventilated nesting box with galvanised steel construction and UV-resistant plastic. The box is a generous size and has swinging plastic curtains to give it a cosy feel inside that poultry prefer for laying. The inside floor features an easily removed soft plastic mat. The front deck extends 16cm out, and lifts up for retrieval of eggs, which roll to the front under the deck, as the hen moves off them. The nest mat 'pile' keeps the eggs clear of any floor manure, as well as being soft and comfortable for the hen to sit on.

Cozy Nest is a well-made, ventilated unit at a very good price. Made entirely of high-impact plastic parts (shock-resistant polypropylene), the nest is designed for maximum ventilation but with minimum light - how hens like it. The nest can be mounted to any flat wall inside your hen house or chicken coop. The back of the nest is open and is mounted to the wall with 4 screws. Rounded top to prevent perching, the nesting box features good depth for nesting material (increased comfort)

Other products we highly recommend:

Poultry Netting - Available in electric or non-electric. Non-electric is good for just containing chooks to an area or keeping them out of the garden! Great for domestic areas where children and pets are present. Electrified poultry netting ensures safe and secure keeping of outdoor poultry. Eggs are safe as predators, or over-inquisitive pets, are kept at bay.

Brood eggs (fake eggs) facilitate training hens to lay their eggs in the provided nesting boxes. This creates a safe place for the eggs where they are unlikely to break. Broken eggs encourage the hens to eat their eggs: this is a difficult habit to break. We have three types - china eggs (have a rougher surface), plastic and rubber (rubber eggs are very natural looking and have a real feel aspect).

Nesting box pad designed to go with the nest-o-matic but can be used in any suitable sized nesting box. The pad keeps the nest clean and tidy and is more hygiencic as it can be lifted out and washed and dried, no need for straw, hay or shavings. Better to reduce the chance of mites, soft and comfortable for the hens.
